A perfect day
In one kind of way
Though the meadows are parched
And the moss on the wall
Is tinder-dry
The tidal wave of springtime white
Breaks over the ditch full of ox-eyed gold
And tall spires of white foxgloves
Rolls over into the hawthorn blush
And the rust of early-summer dock
A buzzard Climbs from the edge
Spirals to the top
Of a roiling thermal
Where rooks wheel
in raucous parliament
