Today's coffee is Sacred Grounds Dark Horse blend, with Torani Salted Caramel syrup and some half & half tossed in for good measure. It'd be fine if it weren't for the extra bitterness of the dark roast. Meh.
Bring out your coffee, folks! #caffeineclub is trending!

Decided to do a little more coffee experimenting, going back to plain old K-Cups. Well, not just *any* old K-Cups - some unusual ones I found on Amazon. I've ordered a couple of varieties of Yuban (regular Yuban and Yuban Gold), plus an interesting one called "illy Coffee, Extra Dark Roast." I'm really curious about this one, but I hope that "Extra Dark Roast" doesn't equate to "burnt." I hope to have some first results by Saturday.
Drinking some iced Organic Drago Blend with Torani Salted Caramel Syrup this morning. Good, but not great. For some reason, while Drago makes good cold brew coffee, it doesn't make the best iced coffee. Go figure.

Organic Drago Blend with Torani Salted Caramel flavor. Good coffee. I hope it tears down the haze I'm peering through this morning.

Ooh!
Yum.
Found this at my local Japanese grocery store/sushi bar. Nice little drink!
Decided to add a tablespoon of Torani Salted Caramel flavoring to my Drago blend coffee. Nice. Added some to a morning visitor's cup - they're helping take care of Mrs. Capt's cats. They like the salted caramel taste, too.
Hot Organic Drago Blend again this morning, #CaffeineClub , to counteract the freezing temperature that we have to keep the inside of this house at. One degree either way and it's ice or sauna. Sheesh.
Back to drinking hot coffee - Organic Drago Blend from the Keurig machine. Almost as smooth as the cold brew - can't tell yet because it's too hot still.
Primula cold brew experiment #3 is officially over. I'm drinking the last cup of the Organic Drago Blend that I brewed a couple of days ago, and it tastes just as good as the first cup did.
Cold brew is definitely sensitive to the quality of the grind you put in. Lousy in, lousy out, w/no heat to mask the taste. Price isn't an indicator, either—my best cup came from my cheapest coffee.
The kit now goes on to a friend. Happy trails.

Primula cold brew experiment #3 continues:
Cold brew Organic Drago Blend goes down smooth. Very smooth. Surprisingly so.
It's a shame that I promised to give the Primula to someone after the experiment is over. 😋 Oh, well - I'll be giving them the ground coffee as well, and at least I know I'll be giving them good stuff.
I pulled the coffee from Primula cold brew experiment #3 a little early - it's just before 4:30 am CDT, about 90 min early. The result? Some pretty damn drinkable coffee! Looks like Organic Drago Blend is suited for cold brewing. Straightforward coffee taste, low acidity, almost no bitterness or burnt taste. Very good!
Changed my mind. The iced Drago wasn't very good. I'm drinking hot Drago Blend now. It's better.
Doesn't bode well for the cold brew Drago Blend.
Primula cold brew experiment #3 is now underway. I've loaded the filter with Organic Drago Blend coarse ground coffee. Come approximately 6:00 a.m. CDT tomorrow, the brew will be ready to drink.
Until then, I will be drinking iced Organic Drago Blend brewed from hot K-Cups out of the Keurig machine for comparison's sake. This will give me my best test yet of the Primula cold brew output.
Cold brew Jamaica Blue Mountain again today. Still have some left in the Primula carafe for tomorrow. I don't think I'll brew any more of it, since it's still got an over-roasted taste to it. I thought it had mellowed out yesterday, but sadly, no. Sigh.
Maybe it's just me. Maybe I just don't like cold brew coffee.
Anyway, I've got one more bag of grounds to test after this. We'll see.
The Primula cold brew Jamaica Blue Mountain is ready! My first taste of it was kind of odd: it tasted a bit burnt. However, Mrs. Capt. said it tasted "decent." I let it sit overnight (without the grounds in it, of course), and it does seem to have mellowed a bit. Still not as good as I remember hot brew JBM, though.

Stirred the Jamaica Blue Mountain coarse grounds in the Primula cold brew kit again. Looking good. Twelve hours to go until coffee is done.
Gave the Primula cold brew grounds a stir. MUCH easier this time around. I'm guessing the Café Britt wasn't coarse ground, whereas the JBM is coarse ground. That's one of the pluses of FRC: you can specify the grind you want of the coffee you order.

The Primula cold brew experiment is back on, this time with 16 tbsp. of Jamaica Blue Mountain coarse ground coffee from Fresh Roasted Coffee. I put it in the fridge at 3:39 p.m. today, and it'll be ready at the same time Wednesday.
Going to go give the grounds a stir in a little bit.
