@BillieBun right??? Society all too quickly made it almost mandatory...if your child doesn't have access in an environment where their peers do, it often leads to horrific bullying.
@SECRET_ASIAN_MAN it's known by many, but not enough. I mean hell, it took gov'ts around the world to even register it was happening and start working to block RT networks only in the last year. The social engineering damage already done in western countries is insane.
@mcfate this makes me question the meaning of the word "Hemorrhoid" and potential alternatives in ways I never wanted to π€π
I think everyone should be reading about this.
I think this should be taught to watch for in schools RIGHT NOW.
This is needs to be part of the average person's skepticism methodology.
I've been speaking on this subject for years now, but it's a serious issue. Russia hit the jackpot on information warfare when it tested out this new weapon on its Crimea annexation. Social engineering is the most pervasive threat in the modern era.
@th3j35t3r can't even make this stuff up, I clicked the video to see how many views it had and this ad narrative pushing poll from the Epoch Times is just all over the place. I've previously reported these ads to YouTube since the far-right paper has been banned from the platform, and I've told the settings to "quit showing me this advertiser" and yet it still keeps coming. I swear these guys have friends at YouTube helping them stir the pot.
I just find myself thinking about this more and more lately, especially now that I have a daughter. I'm so scared for her future. I am neurodivergant, I never learned great social skills to pass down to her. I don't want my child to ever experience cyber bullying. She's only 2 and her mom wants her to have a phone already and that terrifies me. "If you don't raise your kids, someone else will" I believe is the quote that I just find haunting now.
I think kids shouldn't even have access to the general Internet until the age of 13 and even then, it should be moderate. Once they graduate from school, it would be complete access. But before that, they should learn everything they need to know about protecting themselves, their devices, their data, their foot print, etc...the digital age grows ever faster year by year and our educational system is sorely lacking to keep up.
I think kids having phones is important for safety and social mental health, but for texting/phoning, access to the educational network, video chatting with their family etc...a phone for a student might save their life from a school shooter and should never be taken from them, but these apps kids are encouraged to use these days just....foster and grow addictive behaviors and encourage cyber bullying. It's so out of hand and I knew it would get this bad.
The goal of this set up was to prevent access to our children's online presence from predators and corporations. Prevent footholds like TIKTOK or Snapchat from ever poisoning the easily influenced minds of our most vulnerable generation.
The idea was that it would be educational based. There would be resources. Only kids could access it, and they would learn about the responsibility of protecting themselves online and protecting their identity with that license they have to access it.
When I was young, maybe 15 years ago, I had thought about mailing in an idea I had to Elon Musk (I feel so stupid for this now) because back then the most I'd known about him was he set aside hundreds of millions to develop ideas sent in.
I believe we should have a heavily encrypted network designed to be utilized by kids and teachers, a network that requires active licensing to access that needs to be renewed. The network would be sorta like "training wheels" for the Internet.
Apparently Jordan Peterson is creating his own "university" filled with teachers he specifically agrees with & he's doing it in - I shit you not - the format of a social media application. So, not only will you be getting a completely garbage education, but he's encouraging social growth and peer to peer networking on the platform, so he will be able to data-mine the hell outta you and your conversations, & I believe he will use it to create a self sustaining echo chamber think-tank.
Gamer! Canadian! Stupidly energetic!
Yes that's my cat Corusca, yes I gave her a Star Wars name since she was born on May the 4th.
