@Flexi Yeah, the nocebo effect is a little more subtle and even more confusing than the placebo effect. But in general, literacy and reporting about science needs to be higher.

@insomniacviolin Companies make goods and provide services that consumers use for meaningful purposes. Cryptocurrencies are almost entirely dumb scams.

Cryptocurrency trades on the same impulses as gambling addiction: theguardian.com/technology/202 (Note that I have some hesitancy about “addiction” as and how loaded it is, so if that is causing a sticking point, just replace it with “unhealthy, habituated behavior”.)
