The US could theoretically close the Mexican border (for real) with three regular Army divisions, one Marine division, and copious USAF support.

The reality is that the US Army only has two divisions that are ready deploy and the USMC has just one brigade.

Units returning from Syria (followed by Iraq) and Afghanistan are not going to be ready for further deployments any time soon.
