Use this difficult time to improve a part of you that rarely gets challenged: Your Identity.
Consider that horrible feeling in your gut. That's the part of your identity that is bruised.
That's the part of your identity that you allowed to be out of your control.
That's the part of your identity that is outside of yourself.
Comprehend that exposure you are allowing into your core identity.
Work to separate yourself from it.
Use this time in your life as a gift to grow stronger.
America is not unusual in that it is trending more to the right.
Many other countries are as well.
My theory: Because we rely upon the average person to make a decision on who will lead them, we rely upon their ability to discern what is best for them.
We assume that they understand what governing and governance actually is.
We assume they understand the context that causes all of their angst: economics, world affairs, public health, justice.
They don't.
And they can only react.

And you attacked me based on something I didn't say nor imply.
Calm.
@BMO316
Did I not state "I don't have a solution" ?
Clearly you are new here.
@th3j35t3r, Please keep an eye on the provocateur.
Morality, criminality, rights and governance are all abstractions.
There isn't much tangible in these concepts.
If you have not been trained to build models in your mind using these abstractions you cannot use them to make decisions.
You default to your gut.
To intuition.
To the tangible examples.
To the anecdotes.
America is just a bunch of humans.
Not bad.
Not good.
Just trying to make sense of it all.
And it is getting harder and harder every 4 years.
Insight: The average person can't comprehend he complexities of our times to be able to make a reasoned decision on what governs them.
That's why there is an education gap.
I don't have a solution.
But I think that this is the problem of continuing with democracy in its current form to determine our leaders.
Stay calm.
Carry on.
Unless you are knocking on doors today, don't internalize the events happening outside of yourself.
Those events are not "you".
They are outside of "you".
You control what gets inside to "you".
Spend time today making the circle around you a little better.
- Clean up around your desk.
- Finish up that task you've been putting off.
- Do something nice for a friend or neighbor.
You control that.
You are always in control.
Enjoy the last day of normality.
Assume the worst is about to happen.
No need to stress about the unknown if you start from that premise.
Then accept the pleasant surprise when that doesn't happen.
America has been changing. You can't change that. It's who we are at this point in history. It's not your fault. Don't feel a responsibility to fix those massive forces. You will not be held accountable.
And all will be as well as you allow it to be.

That explains the ugly sweater collection.
