I spoke with my 96 y/o mother this morning. She told me that her maternal grandfather was conscripted into the Russian army to fight in the Crimean war. He walked back home to Lithuania with a colleague. He then married that man's daughter when he got home.
Apparently my very existence is based on Russian brutality.
