I just tried to sign up for Pro after killing the splash screen. Couldn't find an icon to do so. Had to refresh to get the graphic below.
Recommendation: Insert a "Contribute/Join" icon in the upper/lower left. Maybe make it blink for 10 seconds when you log in?

I did succeed just now, but it took some effort.
Unless you want to filter out those less-capable people (Ha!) you might consider lowering the friction to sign up.
