we are wired for herding We herd all the time: when we make war & when we make peace, when we celebrate & when we mourn, we herd at work & on vacation. The herd is not out there somewhere, but we carry it within us. The herd is deeply seated in our mind

@corlin interesting observation - coso is obviously a herd - maybe it's just 'unevenly distributed' - to paraphrase William Gibson.
And social media is very fragmented and fractalized these days
And the popular sense of 'individuality' (atomistic - isolated - selfish) maybe be avoiding their shadows :)
@corlin mhm - as i read this article - I think there is a strong libertarian derision of a 'social self' - hence the naming our socialness as 'herding'
Yes, I saw that In the article also. But I do believe that the idea of a built in evolutionarily bias toward the herd. And away form independent reflection, has been accompanied by the proliferation of scientific reductionism, and the independent freestanding self. Popularized by mass media, and culture.
There is fertile ground in discussing the difference between the herd, and interdependence.
@corlin real life seems to be composed or real paradoxes :)
the radical eccentric is equally shaped by the social - they are the shadow-light to each other
Evolution works on populations and the more diversity in the population - the more robust evolutionary response-abilities are
we have to be vigilant of both the eccentric and the herd - honest accounts and good faith agents are vital

@johnverdon
I shared this the other day..
Got no response.
Makes me wonder if there is a CoSo heard. Self reflection just ain’t as cool as it used to be.
