1st floor, where I have my rooms, is always cold. A "whole house" heat/AC doesn't work very well in 3 floors. Last year, DD & SIL invested in a sort of booster for the 3rd floor, but nothing can help the 1st. Having said all that, I think maybe nobody has checked the thermostat - it's even chilly on 2 and 65 on 1 so I think the heat isn't enabled. #firstworldproblems I know, but I'm bundled up in my room right now! ❄️
@wolfwoman My room is on the 2nd flr with the other bedrooms. It is always chilly as all the heat goes right thru the (closed) windows. Window glass doesn't hold in heat well.
@wolfwoman
My place is rent controlled, & space heaters are not allowed, they violate the contract (fire hazard, I get it). Instead, I go through a lot of hand warmers.
@wolfwoman Whatever works.
@jjGravitas @wolfwoman
Fire hazard?
If they're afraid the building will burn down because of modern electronic heaters, with all their automatic cutoffs and safety features, I'd be concerned about the state of the building.
@AskTheDevil @jjGravitas
Agreed. Having said that, people are always the problem, yeah? I mean, my space heater is equipped with the tilt/cutoff feature and it was <$25. But some folx will cut corners & also do dumb things like place one directly under flammable drapes...
@wolfwoman @jjGravitas I think when a landlord tells you stuff like that, it's likely to deflect responsibility, not because it's a danger real enough to make decisions based off.
Like how stores claim they have to pour bleach on food, so homeless people don't try to eat it, get injured on the dumpster, and sue.
Sorry. I always take every opportunity to say not to believe Da Man.
; )

Brings to mind something I talked about with DGD yesterday. (Background: gymnast partner had a concussion 2 weeks ago, her dad ignored medical advice, she's been practicing). I said I was shocked the gym allowed it and DGD said, "they signed the waiver like everyone". Oh, sweet summer child. I was told point blank years ago by a high-powered attorney that a "hold harmless" isn't worth the paper it's written on. He broke them without breaking a sweat.
@AskTheDevil @wolfwoman
The state of the building is fine. Its the state of the people they rent to that I worry about.
@jjGravitas @wolfwoman Ah yes. The old probem of "think how dumb the average person is, then think: half of people are dumber than that."
@jjGravitas Awwww, I am even more sorry that you have that problem. Believe it or not, I spread hand-washing dishes through the day so I can warm up my hands more often! Cray cray
