It's the end of 2022, and I've spent the year really focusing on prioritizing my sleep for myself, my health, my skincare, my career, and my personal well-being instead of for other people.
Despite that, yesterday and today were the first days in recent memory that I was able to sleep past 6.15a or so, and it's been truly game changing.
#SelfCare is real.
#HexingAid update: I just discovered that I can play white noise directly into my aid. I'm not entirely sure why this is an option, but apparently if I *extra* don't want to listen to someone I can drown them out with the sound of ocean waves or rain or a stream.
Also, tested it, and it's great for providing relief if my tinnitus in that ear is getting a little overwhelming. So that's neat.
Friendly reminder - you don't have to earn your dinner, your drinks, or your desserts, today or any day.
#HeathyFoodCulture sometimes means setting boundaries with your friends and family, and you are allowed to do that, every day of the year.
I just love this #DebbieBliss baby cashmerino, it knits up so beautifully (even before blocking).
Cast on for my BFF's new #KnittedHat yesterday. Should be finished today, and then ready for blocking. After not picking up the sticks for several years, it's been nice to see how quickly I'm remembering that I'm actually a solidly decent #KnittingWitch - something I taught myself (thanks youtube!) 15 years ago just after my tiny human was born as a way to keep myself busy while I was nursing.
Another from the same #Photoshoot.
AKA: "what happens when your friend needs to test their #Boudoir studio setup so you throw a few drapey things into a bag with some #Fluevog shoes and see what happens". 😂
It's another chilly day in the Bay, so I'm throwing it back to a much warmer day when I wasn't feeling the need to wear quite so many layers.
One of my favourite photogs to work with, Carle Photography, has since moved to NoLa, but this was a fantastic shoot at their studio in Oakland to help them test out their new set.
Another "coffee and (reusable) eye masks" morning here in chilly San Francisco. Despite the relative humid climate of the Bay Area, these winter months mean extra hydration for the skin. Since my eye masks are reusable, I don't feel guilty using them every day - sometimes twice a day if I'm feeling extra fancy!
(they're these, for anyone curious: I ADORE them: https://go.shopmy.us/p-700078)
I made my BFF a simple knitted hat a decade ago. Last week, they asked me if I could make them another because they wear the first one so often and love it so much.
So - guess I'm picking up the sticks again! I even managed to track down the same yarn and find the pattern I used.
It's been a hot minute, but I'm excited.
Photos of the hat just after I'd finished it (that's me modeling it) Jan 2012.
When a person keeps an entire collection of their hair dye colours on-hand at all times, any day can be a "refresh the hair colour" day. Even a Monday in December.
And remember, all you hep cats and cool chicks, bright rainbow hair is dry clean only: shampoo as infrequently as possible (but don't skip the conditioner) to keep your colours bright and long-lasting.
I’m in day 3 of my new #HexingAid* and let me tell you, the ability to stream Spotify straight into my ear is pretty freaking cool.
Also: check it! It’s so small that you can hardly see it, even though it’s a behind-the-ear model.
*not a typo - its what I’m calling my hearing aid. Feels lovely and witchy and maybe a little dangerous. 😈 (Thanks @Agatha for the naming convention! I love it!)
Also, just a reminder that these are phrases you can tuck into your mental back pocket to keep handy in case you need them.
Just say no to food moralization, or the idea that anyone needs to exercise to punish themselves for their food choices.
Oh hey, it’s your old pal, one step closer to getting her very own hearing aid.
I had partial #SuddenOnsetHearingLoss in my right ear 2.5 years ago, and since it doesn’t appear to be resolving on its own, I’m turning to technology. Just had my audiogram!
I’m living this journey out loud, because, you know, if my eyesight needed a little boost, I wouldn’t be embarrassed about getting glasses or contacts, so why should I shy away from talking about this, either?
More updates to come!
Delivery driver thank you box is out!
Year 7 of thanks for the many folks who make it up our front stairs to deliver things to us. It's always such a joy, and I'm happy to have gotten it out before Black Friday (always my goal, but last year I was late). It'll get a little zhuzh with some juice pouches to round out the beverage offering, and maybe a couple more salty snack options.
