@jedijester I turfed windows long ago and now use Ubuntu Studio. It has a built in recording studio all sorts of software synths, effects for guitars, drum machines. The best feature? When it auto updates, it looks at all the programs on your computer and updates all of them as well. All for free!

i used to do this with knoppix
@jedijester You can do live dvd's of most versions of linux now to try first without installing. Or some, like Tails you can just run on a usb stick
