squirrel persistence used to assist the birds.

i started filling another feeder with peanuts. it's not perfect for them but it works pretty well.

sometimes some get stuck and so the feeder cups get emoty. when i notice, i go out and shake the feeder.

but squirrels perform the task repeatedly, by climbing on the feeder, failing to get any, then jumping down, shaking it in the process.

👌🏽

here's one trying for peanuts.

the air around my chair is 10 degrees F cooler than the air in the rest of the house.

and i can move it to my bedside too.

it makes a difference. and only adds less than 8 ounces or so of moisture to the air in 12 hours.

actually it's nice at bedside to keep my nose from drying out while sleeping.

i was asked to peer review an article.

using ideas from Jung and meditation

translated into objective behaviourist language.

nope, declined, then immediately came across this in Jung.😳

"Psychic disturbances, like somatic disturbances, are highly complex phenomena which cannot be explained by a purely aetiological theory.

Besides the cause we must also take into account the teleological aspect of fitness in biology, which in the psychic realm would have to be formulated as meaning."

be careful when asking the weather spirits for rain.

yesterday i did, and last night😳

did this. two large branches from my lovely maple were ripped off. luckily, it missed the power lines🙏🏻

there's the pile of branches i hauled off the sidewalk, road, and lawn🥵🥵🥵

under the microscope😍😍😍

"some raspberries that I was growing in a garden plot last year were infected by fungus.

I thought, “That’d make a nice image.” When I got a sample into the microscope, I found a couple of little creatures grazing on the fungus on the leaf.

Not only did I image the fungus, but I imaged a mite and a hoverfly larva that was eating the fungus."

oh, no🫣

i was browsing my kindle unread books and came across this😳

describing how and why we are where we are as a species.

it was getting very dry here. with the approaching heat dome came some humidity and clouds.

i went outside and watered my garden a bit, then asked for lots of rain.

we're now getting it😍more than i expected given the scanty cloud cover when i asked.

so, it's welcomed by all my new plantings😎

hooray👌🏽

"But before the Buddha starts talking about nothing,

he, too, calls on the power of compassion. He urges us to vow to liberate all beings—not just ourselves—

but to do so without becoming attached to any concept involved in such a vow."

advice about heat from Yale.

didn't know this.

"Be careful using fans in extremely hot weather: If the temperature is approaching

100 F, particularly if the air is dry,

running a fan can be more dangerous for your body."

haven't heard this yet, and i don't want to.

"the sound of a pair of raccoons in territorial conflict can be misinterpreted as the Jersey Devil himself: intense, frightening, bloodcurdling—even more surprising and chilling than a midnight catfight."

just discovered that my grocer carries these healthy snacks😋

and others made with chickpea flour too👌🏽

i'm calling mama raccoon Molly, short for MollyCoddled😂

she was gone for a couple days. here this morning for a big feed. she had one helping, then took a nap on the bench to let it settle. now she's back at it😍

the Sphinx

"It seems to be very hard for people to live with riddles or to let them live, although one would think that life is so full of riddles as it is that a few more things we cannot answer would make no difference.

But perhaps it is just this that is so unendurable,

that there are irrational things in our own psyche which upset the conscious mind in its illusory certainties

by confronting it with the riddle of its existence."

Jung, The Philosophical Tree

Jung on Paracelsus:

Many treatises define Mercurius simply as fire.

He is ignis elementaris,
noster naturalis ignis certissimus, which again in dicates his “philosophic” nature.

The aqua mercurialis is even a divine fire.

One text says that

"the “heart” of Mercurius is at the North Pole

and that he is like a fire (northern lights).

He is, in fact, as another text says, “the universal and scintillating fire of the light of nature,

which carries the heavenly spirit within it.”

"The forest, dark and impenetrable, like deep water and the sea, is the container of the unknown and the mysterious. an appropriate synonym for the unconscious.

Trees represent the living contents of the unconscious.

Trees have individuality. A tree, therefore, is often a symbol of personality.

the prototype of the self, of the source and goal of the individuation process.

stands for the still unconscious core of the personality, plant symbolic of a state of deep unconsciousness."

"alchemy is not only the mother of chemistry,

but is also the forerunner of our modern psychology of the unconscious.

Thus Paracelsus appears as a pioneer not only of chemical medicine but of empirical psychology and psychotherapy."
