"The fate of our times is characterized by rationalization and intellectualization and, above all, by the disenchantment of the world." Max Weber

along with disenchantment, the development of materialistic science drained reverence from life, projecting its theoretical indifference onto the universe.

the practical result is what we see.

destruction of nature, disregard for all forms of life including human,

indifference. depraved indifference.

a dearth of reverence.

“Man feels himself isolated in the cosmos.

no longer involved in nature and without emotional participation in natural events,

immediate communication with nature has gone forever, and the emotional energy it generates has sunk into the unconscious.”

LET US:

“restore that strata of the mythic, of the psychic to the natural phenomena

move around the mythology of volcanoes and use it as a metaphor,

to return the spirit to the physical.”

Overpopulation is what destroyed man's connection with nature. We can no longer see the power of nature because we can only see our influence on it.

these factors are all interconnected. certainly, population pressures destroy ecosystems to accommodate human activities,

and the development of scientific language lowered and in many cases removed historical cultural constraints against wanton development and the pursuit of luxury.

it appears that nature is gearing up to reduce that pressure from multiple directions.
