@NorthernInvader do you ever get the feeling mother nature is going to take care of herself no matter what the fuck we do?
i mean, coastal cities are the most populous. it's where like what - 40% of earth's population lives?
& since peeps have caused this shit, seems fitting that she gets rid of us in 1 fail swoop.
then, there's the rising seas that will contaminate fresh water. good luck w/ that non coastal residents.
mother nature is going to take care of herself. can't say i blame her.
@singlemaltgirl @NorthernInvader
Except that climate change won’t *just* selectively target humans, other species will suffer and face extinction as well.
For what, human greed?
@peeppeepcircus true. but how is that diff from the mass extinction event that humans are causing right now? if mother nature kicks us off, maybe other species have a fighting chance. 🤔 @NorthernInvader
@singlemaltgirl @NorthernInvader
I mean, climate change has already started.
Why not stop it from getting worse, for the sake of other species and people?
@peeppeepcircus i agree. i'm actively working on climate change.
but i gotta say, the further & further behind we get, the further i get discouraged that we're ever going to act to make meaningful change.
i already feel it's too late. that doesn't mean i'm stopping. but the peeps i have to talk w/ to try & get things done....lord luv a duck. it's exhausting. & i feel like i'm making zero headway.
my frustration leads me to want mother nature to fuck humans up, already 🙄
@singlemaltgirl @NorthernInvader
I totally understand that discouragement, I just think the fatalistic “let it happen” crowd is big enough and lives in many different ideologies, some not very science-based, and it just doesn’t need any company and is part of the problem.
Human sentiment could move mountains, if we could just break through all the fog and confusion about this to override the (fossil) industry influence.
And also THANK YOU @singlemaltgirl for working actively on climate change and having to talk to what I imagine might be a lot of deniers about it.
@peeppeepcircus oh, don't thank me. like i said, i feel like i'm making zero progress.
i'm not even working w/ climate deniers. i live in an area that had a major flood & climate change is wreaking havoc all around us. but trying to get them to spend & direct the $$ when they feel they will lose something....omg. that's the biggest fight. redirecting wealth to climate action. for the sake of all. sooo frustrating.
@singlemaltgirl that sounds incredibly challenging. I’ve been directly affected by extreme disasters from our shifting climate every damn year since 2020 (that’s when a switch flipped on in my region), mostly extreme and unprecedented wildfires and then recent extreme floods. And I have noticed some people don’t want to think about it once the disaster event is over, which of course makes it harder to plan any resiliency.
@peeppeepcircus 💯. we're seeing the exactly same thing.
it's frustrating as fuck, isn't it?
It is. Although for me I also do have some climate science deniers thrown into the mix. And it’s what makes things worse during an emergency. Those same personalities are often in charge of things, and during emergencies we need to interact with them when we are in need, which makes the real-time climate change induced disaster even worse.
i concur. i'm 76 and have been awaiting climate/ecological awareness to take shape since the 60s too.
i fear for children today, i really do.
i think people just can't face the necessary changes. so they go into ostrich mode.
Homo sapiens is not a rational animal. Aristotle's sample was insufficient and biased.
there is an interesting friction though between the people that do understand - in this case the threat of climate change - and want to make changes and the ones that prefer business as usual.
@peeppeepcircus @holon42 it's past time for Dr. Guillotine to make a reappearance.
@holon42 @NorthernInvader
I’m surprised there isn’t more public outrage and awareness by now. Wtf are people waiting for?
