Went on an excursion to see Woodcock's mating dance. No Woodcocks. I maintain my record of having never seen one π
@LadyZurk I just learned that name. Charming
@gemswinc , dunno about that, but it's the local vernacular. π when I was a kid, snipe hunting was a thing where people would send others on a wild ... chase. Both snipe and timberdoodles are actually real birds. They're just not common to see.

@LadyZurk Yes, I know they are birds. Snipe I've seen, Woodcock, not yet, though perhaps will try again
aka snipes? known for running headlong into garbage bags held open by quiet 8 year olds?
spoiler alert--quiet 8 year olds don't exist...
@northernbassist Yes indeed, a type of snipe π
@gemswinc I've seen an American bittern a couple of times. A sora rail, too. No woodcock yet. I'd just like to see one walking.π
@gemswinc That sundown photo looks like it was a great day for exploring, even if the woidcocks didn't show.
@jackdetate A nice group of people too
@gemswinc That makes exploring even more enjoyable. You get to share observations and ideas in the context of the same real-time experience.
@gemswinc , it's a little early for them over here. Timberdoodles Are fun to watch.
