I can't tell you how many times I have re-read this book, despite the fact that I have ALWAYS hated the ending.

But, every time, some part of me imagines that the story will go another way. And I love the premise and the world-building, even though we get only a pencil sketch. Maybe that's the crux of it: My own imagination fills in the blanks.
