Related, "fog lights" should never be used in traffic, except in actual fog. Any accessory lights that aren't factory-stock should never be used around traffic.

In most states, aftermarket accessory lights are illegal to use on road at all. In most states, fog lights are regulated the same as high beams.

They're not "accessory 'look cool' lights" - they're functional things that have a specific use, and "blinding oncoming drivers" isn't one of them.

@ehurtley

The funny thing is lights set up to be actually useful in fog would never shine light high enough to shine in other peoples eyes.

I don't know what the stupid built in lights are typically supposed to be, but unless it's an actual EU spec car, fog lights ain't it.

@Old_Dave @ehurtley

I also wish car manufacturers would take more care with the color of headlights. All those bright blue bulbs KILL night vision in a way yellower and redder lights do not.

@misterfive @ehurtley

And the eyes does not properly focus blue.

headlight technology peaked with the 4 round sealed beam xenon halogen headlights with glass lenses, where 2 are high/low beams and 2 are just hi beam.

@misterfive @Old_Dave The "blueish tinted white" that are actual factory lights are the best for vision at night from a driver's point of view; but they're worse for oncoming drivers.

But many cars have aftermarket "much bluer than that" lights that aren't any better.
