The sky is blue (and doesnβt smell heavily of smoke) for the first time in two weeks. I got all of five minutes feeling good about thatβ¦
@evistre Got REALLY heavy rain + thunder/lightning last night (probably the most impressive thunderstorm I've ever encountered in Portland in 40+ years.) Some light rain just before the skies cleared.
@ehurtley Lovely - we got lighter rain last night and heavier rain today.
We typically have pretty crappy thunderstorms; I think this was the best I've seen in years myself. :)
If you ever have the opportunity... Cayman during hurricane season. Stay within eyeshot of the ocean. If you get (un)lucky, you'll be able to see the lightning strike water.
Truly a sight to behold. Usually accompanied by all sorts of wind, rain, sand and coconuts.
@evistre I lived in Northern Arizona in college, and have family in Southern Arizona. AMAZING thunderstorms there. I didn't know what a Thunderstorm really was until going there.
Once at my grandparents house, sitting on their back deck, watching a thunderstorm in the distance stretch across the Santa Rita mountain range - from one side of the sky to the other. There was literally continuous lightning visible for over an hour.
@evistre Lived not to far from where this Wiki picture was taken: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Santa_Rita_Mountains#/media/File:Santa_Rita_Mountains_Arizona_From_Sahuarita_2013.jpg
The storm was flashing continuously across the whole range.
@ehurtley Gorgeous!! I bet that was something to see!
