When ignorant people do ignorant things... so I just watched somebody Park in a handicap spot at the store and when I brought it to her attention respectfully she gave me the bird so I said okay I got you and informed the manager in the store... the girl decided to move her car and proceeded to park in a no parking fire zone and what was even funnier is there was a fire department official in the store who saw her do that and came out of the store and said nope not there... #ignorancesucks
@badkoukla she's not handicapped she was just ignorant she didn't want to park and walk 15-20 steps to the front door
@duglop No argument from me in this case - you were there, and clearly read the situation right. She deserves to be shamed.
@badkoukla well I can't say for other states but in Illinois if you're going to park in one you have to have your placard displayed whether it's on a license plate hanging on your mirror or a placard in your windshield but I think they're doing away with hanging a sign on the mirror though... The penalty for failure to do so amounts to a misdemeanor with up to $2,500 fine
@duglop
I caught one the other day at UPS. When I asked her why she wanted to risk a $100 fine just to send a package she ignored me. So I took a picture of her license plate.
@Jeber that's it? That's generous, here it can be up to $2,500 fine and a misdemeanor... Hey I haven't seen you much lately I hope you're doing much better than you were a few weeks ago I know you were down it's good to see you back up again
@duglop
Thanks. I bounce around a bit.
As to parking fines, I think the handicapped parking fine starts at $100 and escalates to $250 for repeat offenders. I wish it was $2500, that might be a better discouragement.
@Jeber hey I know that feeling of bouncing around a bit it's not a fun party when you get caught up in your own head about something... For me it's PTSD from the military but I know for others it might be something totally different but just as bad if not worse so you have my full respect and understanding
@duglop
In my day they hadn't "discovered" PTSD yet. Now it's too late for attribution. I hope you're able to deal with it successfully.
@duglop Let me guess. There were plenty of parking spaces 14 steps farther away. And she was parking to go to the gym.
@walterbays bingo this is literally right outside the front door literally
@walterbays it was just the Dollar Tree store actually LOL just a mad rush to get in there and spend that $1.25
@duglop This is a long standing problem with EV charging spaces which are often in prime locations next to the entrance. Drivers lobby store owners to place charging in the worst remote location so that gas drivers won't block them so often. But it's usually much cheaper to put them by the building which is by the existing electric lines. 😥
@walterbays I'm confused now I don't know what they have to do with what I was talking about sorry
I believe the theme is "People are jerks that knowingly park in places they shouldn't, just to save themselves a few steps."
Walter was just providing another example of that.
@Tarnagh @walterbays okay now it makes a little bit of sense and I can understand the plight of that thanks!
@Tarnagh Thanks
I have a handicap placard and drive a van. People have assumed I somehow erroneously obtained my five year placard because my handicap is not immediately visible. And I drive a van.
I feel no obligation to reveal the nature of my handicap to a virtual stranger. And just ignore them.
Thank you for politely checking. We are not all assholes.
@LnzyHou she wasn't handicapped
@LnzyHou perhaps if you had been here to see her actions and relevancy to this you would have known why I said what I did if she were handicap she would have said so she just didn't want to walk to 15 or 20 steps to the door...
@LnzyHou @duglop same here.i got my disability in '08(I was 38)..I love the death stares I get from elderly ladies who think I'm 'too young,' to be disabled and should let them have the spot simple because they're 'Older' than me(not happening) though I will give up the spot for wheelchairs,carts etc.i can walk,many cannot.. #NotAnAsshole
#disabled
@duglop You're generous ascribing ignorance to that behavior. I assume active narcissism. Rules are for ordinary people, and don't apply to them.
@kay_dub oh trust me in my mind I had other thoughts...
@duglop ignorance definitely sucks and sounds like in this case your instincts were spot on. But I would caution that sometimes people don’t have visible handicaps.
