okay well, West Virginia wants coal mines (for reasons which will never make sense to me). It doesn't matter how angry you get, it doesn't matter if you vote Democrat or Republican or Libertarian, some things just aren't coming back because that's how the linear nature of time works. So how do we get through to those people that change and progress for the future is a good thing?
this is also the shortest Morning excerpt I think I've ever seen... usually you get kind of a preview summary of the whole article, including the conclusions it comes to. this time they're like "you might think Dobbs happened because a bunch of anti-abortion activist judges were appointed by a wannabe dictator to pursue a decades-long conservative goal... it's complicated, read the article."
obviously alito leaked the draft. he's leaked opinions before, he had motive to cement votes in place, and there's the fact that the investigation into the leaker abruptly stopped with no result and no one being punished. all of these justices lied in their confirmation hearing when they promised to uphold roe and alito was the first.
(a) I feel like if that was the case we would have just re-elected Trump
(b) the two things are not necessarily related. more likely people agree with his defense of democracy but they're just pissy in general that he can't wave a magic wand and solve all our problems
(c) if they DO want an authoritarian, then... too fucking bad, no, you can't turn this country into Russia 2.0. Americans shouldn't always get what they want.
