Lake Kaweah which is replenished by Sierra snowmelt has dropped considerably as we move toward the final days of July and the temperatures still in the triple digits. sequoiaparksconservancy.org/we

When visiting the Mineral King area of Sequoia National Park it's recommended that you wrap your vehicle in a tarp, so the marmots don't have a dinner party in your engine.

The water's down a bit as would be expected as we head from June to July. A couple more bearable days before the triple digit temps return.

One remarkable figure we celebrate today is Brigadier General Charles Young. As the first African American superintendent of a national park, he played a pivotal role in the early conservation efforts of Sequoia National Park. In 1903, Young and his troops from the Buffalo Soldiers built roads and trails that helped make the park accessible for future generations to enjoy.

Lake Kaweah is full and there's still quite a bit of snow up in the Sierra, so that's good news for June.
