@damselfly59 Really, so many cubs die? I thought they would more or less all reach adulthood if they survived the first month or so. What do they die of? @LnzyHou
@ToruOkada everything. Momma was hit by a car @LnzyHou
How sad.
oh no. cars are the worst predators of wildlife 😭😭😭
Wolves play a role
@LnzyHou @ToruOkada @damselfly59
only 8 of 18 survived? i had no idea bears were that vulnerable to wolves. Homo sapiens, yes😡
@holon42 @ToruOkada @damselfly59
Wolf pack can take down an elk bull. Small cub is nothing.
wow, i suppose the mother isn't around? or can a pack of wolves overcome her as well?
heartbreaking. but nature👹
@LnzyHou @holon42 @ToruOkada
Wolves have come back to our hills. Used to see 100s of elk on the hill across from me. Since wolves hsve come back the elk no longer travel in such huge groups. Which is better for the fauna
Have seen them several times. Always amazed at their size.
They are a little too successful right now, many more packs in a region but likely to plateau again.

it is good to see the wolves returning, for sure👍🏼

I worked in federally-licensed wolf sanctuary in CO. At the time, we had 42 animals in 1/2 acre enclosures.
What I learned interacting with these packs was amazing.
This was Shaman.
they are wonderful animals.
Shaman’s paw was wider than the palm of my hand.
