Happy 100th birthday Jimmy Carter

To me, and many people my age, this single act, taught us all that President Carter put morals above politics.

On Jan. 21, 1977, President Jimmy Carter, in his first full day in office, fulfilled a campaign promise by granting unconditional pardons to hundreds of thousands of men who had evaded the draft during the Vietnam War by fleeing the country or by failing to register with their Selective Service boards.

@corlin I only wish I'd voted for him. Not voting for him is one of the biggest regrets of my life.

@corlin

he is a great man. i liked him as president, but being 🇨🇦 my experience was not of any depth.

his actions since leaving politics have continued to shine forth as an example of practice the preaching.

This was my first presidential election and I am proud to have voted for him.

Happy birthday sir.

With his recognition of the energy crisis, its effects on climate, and setting a progressive energy/environmental agenda, I truly thought "the times they are a-changin' ". Alas we've had huge pushback ever since 1980 and Reagan, crippling of unions, and removal of the solar panels Carter put on the White House. 😡

@corlin
He is one of my favorite humans. He was one of The Elders for a long time, and organization that inspires me.

On that, here's a tidbit I did not know. It started because Peter Gabriel and Richard Branson chatted up Nelson Mandela about creating a new gathering of world leaders for our increasingly interconnected global village, calling it “The Elders”. Carter ,Tutu, Robinson, Ki-Moon, and others... they are our village elders.
