It's day 5 of #altjazz. Since Tigran Hamasyan is one of my favorite geniuses, I'll pick him again today. I especially enjoy the section starting at the 3 minute mark, but all of this piece makes my brain happy with the complex rhythms and changes. Here is The Grid (live) by Tigran. Man I need to see this guy in concert someday.

A storm is brewin', with some locations already reporting baseball-sized hail. And it's headed my direction, so trying to mellow that harsh.

It's day 4 of #altjazz. I was completely unaware of this collaboration until this past week, but SO happy I found it. Here is Serj Tankian (!) with Tigran Hamasyan (!!) playing Through Nights and Hopes. Dig it!

Listening today: The album Sweet Honey Bee by Duke Pearson. With Freddie Hubbard (trumpt), Ron Carter (bass) and Joe Henderson (sax), this swings.
Perfect (for me) to brighten up this rainy morning.

It's day 3 of #altjazz. If you've never listened to Emma-Jean Thackray, today would be a good day for a deep dive. Here is her song "Say Something"
Odd experience just now. Has not happened before to me. I received a Chrome browser notification (on my desktop) from Facebook. However, I was not logged-in to FB in any browser window or tab, and also had cleared all cookies from FB (I have a plugin that does this for all FB-related domains when I logout). So what mechanism is running in Chrome that allowed this to occur even though I was logged-off and no cookies for identity? Maybe local-storage? app cache? or ??

For day 2 of #altjazz here is Organ Eternal by Yazz Ahmed
Congratulations to Erik Wøllo and Ian Boddy for the #1 Best Ambient Album in the Schallwelle 2022 Awards for their collaboration Revolve (DiN73).

This week I will try to bring seven days worth of #altjazz (call it nu jazz or post jazz or whatever you like). Feel free to post your own picks to add to the conversation, but please, let's not try to decide if it's "jazz" or not. As Duke said, "if music is agreeable to my ear, why does it have to have a category? It either sounds good or it doesn't".
Starting things off, here is Chaser by Mammal Hands

Capping off day 7 of #FunkWeek, here is the KING of funk joined by the PRINCE of Funkness. Sadly the Prince is gone, but if you ever get a chance to be with the King, jump on it. He will have the whole venue jumpin'!
