I posted a song from one of my favorite singers (Perla Batalla) a few days ago.

And wow. Got a surprise today.

Just found out she's releasing a new album on September 21, the day prior to what would have been Leonard Cohen's 90th birthday (she collaborated and sang with Cohen for more than 20 years).

This preview video was released 3 days ago. Here's her cover of "Democracy"

Today's song is for A Magical Isle.

For whatever reason it was playing in my head when I woke up this morning.

Here's "Kalynda" by Renaissance.

For my musically adventurous friends.

Check out this entire album. It's experimental, slightly avant-garde at times, but — for me, anyway — it's ultimately very rewarding. If you don't like a particular track, just give it a minute or two.

P.S. Can anyone find out who's singing in "Quantum Part 1 (Opening section)" It sounds a lot like Björk, but she would have only been 7 or 8 at the time, so not her.

It's rock-out-loud day at Code's house, so here's a new cut from a band I find very interesting. Turn it up!

Yep, it's time for my (roughly) twice-a-year post of this guy and his music.

Tigran Hamasyan instantly made my "live concerts before I die" list when I saw this video.

Just a genius performance.

It may be pure corn to some, but I offer no apologies for this pick... one of my favorite songs is "Time After Time".

Here is Eva Cassidy's rendition:

Maybe it's just me, but when July 4th falls on a Thursday, the week feels like seven Sundays.

Here is "Stranded in Time" by The United States of America.

Moar accoardion.

From one of my favorite (and definitely most interesting) bands, here is some metal grind polka with clear operatic and eastern European folk influence.

3/4 time FTW!

Even if the vocals are 'not for you' the rest of the song is incredibly interesting (to me).

If you find yourself contemplating — yet again — the ten supernal sefirot today, you might use this as background music. It's lovely.

Sunday's vibe.

I'd venture a guess that this was originally written to be a part of the Electric Dreams soundtrack, but didn't quite make the cut. Either way, let the nostalgia wash over you.

Indulged in a trip down memory lane on Sunday, went to see these guys live. They go well with Ruby Vroom-era Soul Coughing.

After all these years, they've still got it, what an amazing show! (and Paul Slavens is pretty much a Dallas music institution at this point)

Here's Ishmael Ensemble's "Dust" from the album "Rituals", coming September 6

Today's listening has been mostly Basil Kirchin. Here's a choice cut. If it sounds too 'experimental' for your taste, skip to the 2 minute mark for a great, happy jazz piece.

This morning is a high energy one for me. Digging on this band from Oslo. Reminiscent of Muse, maybe a bit of Haken, but they have a sound all their own. Crank it up!

Here's Rendezvous Point with "Don't Look Up"
