Well, for day 7 of prog week, I'm picking from one of the giants of prog. Here is Indiscipline by King Crimson, playing live with - wait - how many drummers?
WHOA! Hold on a sec. So today The Hu released a song with Alice in Chains? Wow. MORE PLEASE.

Spread the light when the sky is grey
Let things rise and grow to carry on the flame
Reach the lines to enlighten fate
Free from human kind now we're gone away
OK, we are on day 6 of my self-proclaimed prog week, and perfect for listening on a cold, dark day (where I am) here is Yonder by Klone.

For day 5 of prog week, Here is Language I:Intuition by The Contortionist.

It's already day 4 of prog week, and I still have not brought out the Haken. It's time. And it's hard to pick any one song by them, but after last night I need something encouraging. So...
Here is Earthrise by Haken.

For day 3 of prog week, check the technical prowess of Scale the Summit, playing Blue Sun

This week my picks will focus on prog rock, including some of my favorites from several sub-genres, including math rock, prog metal, djent and maybe even Zeuhl. To kick off the week, check out What I Really Need, from RPWL. (There is an official video, as well, but I feel that its cheesiness detracts from the music and lyrics.)

This guy's voice is so distinctive. I sometimes think of Bowie when I first hear it, but I enjoy David Sylvian's music so much more. He's had quite the career (check out the band Japan, or his collabs with Ryuichi Sakamoto, or the reformed band Rain Tree Crow). All I know is that once you hear his voice, you'll probably always be able to identify one of his songs. Here is Taking the Veil by David Sylvian:

There's never been a band quite like Cloud Cult. It's worth reading their Wikipedia page to get a feel for who they are, what they've been through in this life, and how it has molded their musical journey. They have several more well-known songs, but this one always gets me. If you dig it, check out the entire album "Light Chasers". Here is "Unexplainable Stories".

Feeling gentler today. Calmer. I enjoy music with great vocal harmonies, and can blame that on my upbringing. So bands like Queen, ELO, Native Construct, Jellyfish, etc. all figure prominently in my playlists now that I'm a grup (yes, that's a TOS reference - if you get it, well, you get it).
So here is a pick for today that I hope you've never heard before, it's "A Kid Called Panic" by Moon Safari.

Often a piece of music either makes me feel or makes me think. It's a treat when I find one that does both, even if I can't explain the why or how of it. Today's pick does both (and also pays homage to Tool). Continuing rock week, here is 'Jurassic | Cretaceous' from the album 'Phanerozoic II:Mesozoic | Cenozoic' by The Ocean (w/Katatonia's Jonas Renkse).
Bonus, I dig rock that incorporates brass.

I'm hearing white lies coursing through the disguises
I hear it all, I hear it all
I'm hearing lost cries chorusing the night sky
And I hear it all, I hear it all
Oh, I hear it all through the wolves in the walls
Who might you be? Who should you be?
Here is "Feathergun in the Garden of the Sun" by Rishloo

Metal is such an interesting genre. One album I've enjoyed over the last few years came out in 2019. It's a wonderfully deep concept album, written by an unknown artist after learning of his dad's terminal cancer diagnosis. I can't write a more thoughtful or complete review than Angry Metal Guy did (see link below). Here is track 1 from Sermon on the album Birth of the Marvellous.

Discovering a band that is new (to me), and whose music makes me wonder "how have I not heard this before?" is a joy to me. Why aren't these guys more famous?
The Dear Hunter is a band I only discovered in the last 2 or 3 years whose compositions, production and artistry have made them a personal favorite. Here are the first two tracks from the album "Act V: Hymns with the Devil in Confessional":
