#politics Renovating abandoned houses reduces the rate of gun violence, Penn study finds
Gun crimes went up during the study, but they went up less near houses that got new doors and windows, at a cost of $5,900 https://www.inquirer.com/health/gun-violence-philly-abandoned-houses-penn-study-20221214.html
@Sigmundine I give him those raw because he loves chewing them to bits. He loves the crunch. If I put those food items in his chop i cook them. What kind of macaws do you have? Ours is a military macaw.
@Sigmundine he loves chewing up squash. Butternut, acorn, etc. also sweet potatoes and yams.
I gave the macaw, half a spaghetti squash and an empty egg carton. He started with the egg carton, but is now chewing up the squash.
@Tattoomonkey29 It just sounds terrifying. Sending you soothing pats.
@Tattoomonkey29 Yikes! I hope you feel better soon.
Hey California Cosonauts: Beware of fraudulent referendum petitions! SB 1137 establishes a "health and safety buffer" of 3200 feet for any oil drilling from where Californians live, work and play. Big Oil is spending millions of dollars to overturn this. Now they are collecting signatures on a referendum which they (fraudulently) claim will block oil drilling in neighborhoods-- but if it qualifies for the ballot by December 15 it will stop the law from going into effect on January 1. 1/2
@LPH6 What's bigger than ginormous? Because that's what this feels like. But my dad is ready to part with things. Phew!
I made a pile of "things that have cords and can't go in the dumpster" which included several of those had saws with round blades, every single blade rusted and my dad, who is the son of a hoarder, only asked to keep one of them. He's 91. If he wants to keep one, that is OK. But not all of them. But corded items are a separate dump experience.
