We were on the edge of the infestation, there are always cicadas in the summer, we just had a bit more than usual that summer (2021).
@cjcrew If you've got a lot of them emerging near you, you're probably deaf by now. En masse they are crazy loud. If you're not hearing the noise, you may just have a lot of fat, happy birds
