One of my favorite examples of international pettiness (or, maybe, the opposite of pettiness) is the abbreviation "UTC" for Universal Coordinated Time.
See, "UTC" is obviously the _wrong_ abbreviation in English... but it's also wrong in French, Spanish, Italian, German, etc.
Scientists all over the world agreed that _no_ language would be favored; "UTC" would be wrong for everybody.
I think that's beautiful.

Even a small act of kindness can mean the world to someone.
