The woman we attempted to assist on my last on-call of the year, has succumbed to her injuries. It was the circumstances surrounding this pickup that have given me pause as to whether I will continue in the Spring.
While the majority of all pickups are safe w/no interference, and all protections are in place, there's always the potential a victim's escape can go awry as it did in this case. The risk & danger for the team was intense.
The perp was apprehended. Investigation is ongoing.
Oh no Cher 💜😔
I am so sorry, and respect deeply the risk teams such as yours take in trying to save victims of abuse trying to flee.
Damn 😞
@Minholkin
Of all the years, this is the first where the risk was this great for everyone. Proper protocol was followed on our end and on the end of the victim's safe source. LEO's were in place as always. The trail was picked up by the perp leading to the altercation. How, is unclear yet. Still processing all the info. Everything is raw right now for everyone.
I am sure everyone is hurting from the horror of this. And feeling the anguish of trying so hard to be careful and do things for the safety of all and be thwarted by a malignant jealous abuser.
My heart hurts for all of you, and especially you as someone I care deeply about.
@Minholkin
Thank you Min. I'm burying my feelings atm in preparation for this trip, which is probably the best thing all the way around right now. I'll have time to think logically about it all when we reach our destination and in a peaceful, calm setting. It's the blessing in disguise I think.
@CherNohio @Minholkin Compartmentalizing can be a survival strategy. 💙
@CherNohio @Minholkin I'm very lucky to have so many people here at the shelter who have lived experience with trauma. We talk about it a lot.
