YouTube is ass.
Ads for anime porn games? Really? That's what you think is going to get my attention?
Is there a slightly less insulting video platform? Maybe one that tries to sell me used pantyhose and crystal meth?
@aspecurian You Tube ads are the pits
@gemswinc I know it's against their ToS to download the videos (unless you cough up the cash) but man does it help with the whole watchability thing.
@aspecurian I only use it when I know exactly what I want, and don't let them divert me.
@aspecurian I have Adblocker, and haven't seen an ad ( at least on my laptop and Firefox on mobile ) in years.
@ProjectShadow @aspecurian which blocker do you use; if I may ask
@DCliffo @aspecurian Of course. Adblocker on Chrome, and Adguard Adblocker on Firefox for mobile.
@ProjectShadow They have started really cracking down on ad blockers.
A lot of the time they won't even play videos if you have one active. And they have been caught throttling others for the same reason.
@aspecurian I know they have, but the community is applying fixes almost as soon as Google issues a new patch. If it says I'm blocked, I just clear the caches, refresh, apply, and I'm back to watching videos.
@ProjectShadow Nice.
Do any of them work on Android?
@aspecurian Adguard Adblocker for Firefox on mobile works great on Android, but obviously you need to go through Firefox for it to work. Still haven't found anything that works for the YouTube app.
@ProjectShadow Ugh.
Just found a "free" app that says it works.
It also says "Contains ads" and "In-app purchases." ๐คก
Seriously, fuck capitalism.
@aspecurian The ol' bait 'n switch.
Half the time these ads are labeled 'financial services' or some bullshit like that.
And the advertisers' identity isn't even confirmed?!?!?
You would think that they would at least check the big 3:
1) Is this ad for what it says it's for?
2) Is the advertiser who they claim to be?
3) Does this ad violate our policies?
Instead they have US doing THEIR due diligence.
