TORONTO ā€” Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is criticizing the Ontario governmentā€™s use of the notwithstanding clause in legislation to impose contracts on education workers and ban them from striking.

Trudeau says using the notwithstanding clause to ā€œsuspend workersā€™ rights is wrongā€ and while collective bargaining is difficult, the process must happen.

Fordā€™s tabled legislation overrode Charter sections 2, 7&15 where everyone has the right to:
2 -freedom of expression, assembly & association
7 -life, liberty & security of the person
15 -be equal before & under the law

Iā€™d prefer to see some binding arbitration than suspension of civil rights.
