The Sahara dust has arrived. During the summer, bands of dust from the Sahara Desert blow west across the Atlantic, affecting our weather patterns.

These two photos are just before sunrise, looking east, about 40 minutes apart.

The heat index at sunrise was 91Β°F (33Β°C). I went cycling but cut it short. Too hot, too humid, too dusty.

Doing research for my Florida space politics book, I found something similar, a 1925 two-page ad promoting land in Cape Canaveral. It promised a lot that wasn't true either.

I needed to know the "as the crow flies" distance between Vandenberg SFB and Edwards AFB.

Turns out that Google Maps has a Measure Distance feature.

I've been using Google Maps for many years, but never knew this until now.

I'm having a big "Duh" moment. 😳
