@holon42 I don't think he cares. Everything he does is transactional towards his own narcissistic ends. He doesn't care about policy. He cares about enriching himself and, more immediately, not going to jail.
i agree he doesn't care, but he also hates to obey other people, so having to backtrack must rankle.
at this point, staying out of jail probably is his main concern, so i suppose they're using that as leverage, still thinking they can complete their coup.
but trump not being allowed to be trump, as the decision against hot mikes shows him his handlers don't trust him—that must irk him too.
