"The rocket company and its 10,000 employees soared to new heights week after week in 2022, presenting what appeared to be a parallel universe governed by precision as chaos roiled the other ventures of Elon Musk, its founder and chief executive."

NASA still partners with Space X when they could be doing the same shit without Space X. Just another government subsidy that Elon loves so much so he can tell us how bad government is.

@miserable_day Sorry, but as someone who's worked out here for 10+ years almost none of what you said is true.

SpaceX submits bids in response to NASA issuing Requests for Proposals. SpaceX wins some contracts, not others.

NASA cannot discriminate. The Air Force lost a lawsuit about ten years ago when it tried to perpetuate a monopoly with United Launch Alliance. If you want NASA to violate the law, you're entitled to your opinion, but your opinion is illegal and won't hold up in court.

@miserable_day NASA contracts are not "subsidies." They are a payment for a service.

There have been contracts over the decades where Congress decided it wanted to invest seed money in advancing American technology so the U.S. maintains a competitive advantage over other nations, e.g. Russia and China. That has been in NASA's charter since 1958, long before SpaceX began in 2002.

SpaceX, ULA, Blue Origin, Axiom, and many more companies have contracts from NASA to advance our lunar technology.

Thank you for this info. Is it possible that Elon could undergo some sort of a security risk clearance review? He’s also a messenger for Putin and the Kremlin (Fiona Hill articulated it best this year), which is a bit concerning.

Follow

@peeppeepcircus That already happened in 2019 after Elon puffed once on a joint on the Joe Rogan show. Besides, SpaceX is owned by Elon but it's not run by Elon. It's run by Gwynne Shotwell.

Elon is basically Sheldon Cooper with $150 billion.

@WordsmithFL

I remember that safety review! Just curious why carrying water for an adversarial dictator hasn’t sparked some sort of a new review.

@peeppeepcircus As the article stated, Elon (as well as the rest of the SpaceX executives and the same at other NASA contractors) have security clearances. Those are no doubt regularly reviewed, not just internally by NASA but also by U.S. intelligence agencies. If Elon were up to no good, our intel would pick it up and report it to NASA -- and more importantly the DoD -- ASAP.

Elon acts in his own interest. Ten years ago, he was cozy with the Obama administration.

@WordsmithFL

And I even remember being excited about Space X back then! But Elon has taken off his mask of his true self with his misadventures in Twitter, and he's toxic to most any brand.

Hopefully Space X will become *more* separate from Elon.

And I still *do* find it strange that - especially after Fiona Hill's statement - that another security review wasn't made for his coziness with Kremlin propaganda, and that *nothing* was caught yet? It's totally okay for me to be critical of that.

@peeppeepcircus Yep, I have an L.A. Times subscription so I read that.

If/when we buy a Tesla, Elon's a**holery won't enter into the equation. I think he'll be voted out as CEO within a year.
