How do people reconcile the idea of a strong man with an elderly, incoherent, full of hatred and revenge rhetoric man, his senile aspirations to become a dictator who hates the country and entire cities/states and citizens bc they're Democratic, all the felonies, fraud, scandals, corruption, ineptitude, even his now well documented diaper malfunctions, a shadow of an already faulty man with no other policies , and say "yeah, only he can save us!", just how?

To cement their loyalty, the leader has to give them someone to hate. Who that is doesn't really matter: the group simply has to be blamed for all the troubles the leader’s supporters are suffering. Trump has kept his base firmly behind him by demonizing immigrants, the media, and, increasingly, Democrats, deflecting his own shortcomings by blaming these groups for undermining him.
