We have an obviously sick raccoon wandering the neighborhood showing classic signs of rabies. I've been on the phone all day trying to get someone who deals with this sort of thing to come out and do something before someone gets hurt. It's stumbling around, drooling and very aggressive if approached. I've contacted animal control, the local police department, Department of Natural Resources, exterminators, the mayor's office, and all have said not their problem and to just trap it myself. WTF?
I've sent an email to a couple of local news outlets here in the county both online and televised.
You might also try a phone call or two to stress the immediacy of the danger if the animal really is rabid.

I get some of those but not the refusal by animal control. That's their purpose. Otherwise why do we have them?
I started with animal control. Police department told me to call an exterminator which I thought was silly since the animal isn't in my house. Although it tried to chew through my elderly neighbors screen door and bared it's fangs at her.

I hate to be that guy but at this point just go deal with it. Take a 22 pistol out and put a bullet in it. Go ahead and hate on me.
If I owned a firearm I would. It's obviously suffering. It's currently under a bush at the side of my house.
Don't know where you live. Here it's the Sheriff's Department.
@WaevetSmaevets "a well regulated militia...", etc... /s
Not a bad idea. Maybe I should hit up one of the three percenters down the street.
@WaevetSmaevets
Maybe contact your state & local health departments?
@WaevetSmaevets
Can you try Public Health? If not, talk to TV stations and see if you can get their attention. If they run with it, you'll have city, country, and state agencies tripping over each other trying to trap the poor thing.
