Coming Soon: I’m rebooting my old blog on Substack. I’ll be looking for ways to balance a broad discussion of genealogy and local history research with personal stories of cousins both near and distant.
Remember: we’re all cousins if you can go back far enough!
Look for me on 4 October.

The older I get, the more I realize how little of American history I was taught in school...
"Descendants of executed Dakota 38+2 ride to Mankato to honor ancestors"
They need a new #Superman - why not?

In case you forgot about Christmas, here's a lovely gift for someone:

I'm looking for suggestions of songs for a #genealogy / #familyhistory themed album.

A Pearl Harbor Day re-post:

I feel good
I feel great today
I joined the Happy Club
And the Happy Club says:
@DarksideStraxus my first impulse is to ask if you actually meant "v"...
But that's what Twitter was for.
@ciarvella I haven't used them since I graduated and lost my free account. I've been using YTMusic lately.
I get frustrated with streaming music services and their recommendations algorithms. When I put in artists who are women and let the service generate a playlist, they always seem to regress to the "white guys with guitars" mean.
Like, if I start with Neko Case, shouldn't I expect to hear at least a few similar female artists (in addition to Death Cab for Cutie and the Decembrists)?
I want more diversity from my recommendation algorithm!
@Jezibaba
A little bit of cheddar,
get a knife
A little bit of gouda,
in my life.
I need some mozzarella
for this slice
A little jalapeno
would be nice!

If you're interested in the U.S. #CivilWar, I published a collection of 77 poems by my great-great-grandfather - a soldier in the 21st Ohio Light Artillery.
(The Lulu page is marked as "explicit material" for some grisly descriptions)

@SirenFae89 a month from now, you're going to have a whole new person to distract you from pondering such questions!
(I hope yours is as awesome as my four were.)
@a2dox it turned out to be pretty hefty, but I am pleased with it.
The sequel is going to be the one with living people in it, though, which makes it more challenging.
@realMichaelHawk yes... but how weird would you feel if I said "No, yours" and started telling you facts about your nana?
(Because that's how weird some of my distant cousins feel when I tell them about my research!)
Anyone else here into family history and #genealogy yet?
I self-published my research in March, after a seven-year effort.
Well worth the time!
