Never forget how 22 years ago today Congress, Republicans and Democrats alike, stood on the steps of the US Capitol and solemnly promised America in the name of their god, that they'd put aside their differences and work together.
I say "never forget," because they sure did. By Sept 12th.
@MidnightRider I don't know that he "wished" for it, but he did suggest that an alien attack on earth would be the only thing that could united us.
But then, Reagan said a lot of things and told a lot of folksy stories, some of which might even have been partial true.
@Stonekettle I respect him for his work as a lifeguard.
@Stonekettle This just broke me with its honesty and I'm *English* ffs. Politicians! A pox on them!
@Stonekettle What they actually did -- working together in a truly bipartisan way -- was pass the PATRIOT Act, the worst assault on our rights since the Alien & Sedition Acts. A lot of its provisions were things the far right had wanted to make law, but couldn't get the votes for until 9/11.
If you weren't frothing at the mouth for domestic surveillance, war on Muslims, detention without trial, and torture, you were a friend and ally of the terrorists.
@ImagineThat @Stonekettle that seems consistent with congress having acted 'in the name of their god'
Maybe we should stop being influenced by ideas of what gods may or may not want until evidence of their existence is presented.
@Stonekettle Didn't "ray gun" once quip he wished we would be attacked by aliens so Earth would be unified? (like there was no other path for that to happen)
