I see we've circled back 'round to "Arm the teachers!" again.
It's a bad idea. It's always going to be a bad idea.

@Stonekettle Even when I re-read your pieces, they still have the same punch as the first time (and, in some cases, more). Thank you.
@Stonekettle Agreed.
@Stonekettle at the same time we don't trust them to teach our kids, criticize the reading materials presented to them, etc....

@Stonekettle Yeah weve got a gun problem alright- guns in the hands of the wrong people.
Teachers are for educational purposes not war or police duty.
@Stonekettle As a late stage capitalist, you gotta love an industry whose safety measures means selling more of the product that caused the deaths to prevent the deaths. Very Homer: "Ah AR-15s, the cause and solution to all life's problems."
@Stonekettle
Career public school teacher here. I am reasonably proficient with firearms.
Anyone who thinks arming teachers is a good idea has never had experience working in this setting. It is the worst possible idea.
Have any of these people attended second grade? I still remember the mob of little girls gathered adoringly around the teacher as she returned to school after lunch. Add in some little boys who think it would be a hilarious prank to get her gun ...
@Stonekettle
They’ll lose their minds when the first teacher shoots some cis-male white kid shooter.
They simply can’t think beyond their noses.
@Stonekettle
This idea has always seemed like a way for a kindergartener or little kid to get hold of a gun and wind up shooting the teacher or one of their classmates.
And at least some kids will get hold of the gun.
Large groups of curious young children + 1 frazzled teacher + firearms = disaster waiting to happen.
I have to think people who suggest this have spent no time in classrooms recently.
