First, I got myself born. A decent crowd was on hand to watch, and they've always given me that much: the worst of the job was up to me, my mother being let's just say out of it.

"[A] pregnant person might drive across a state border, begin to miscarry, and suffer for days without the life-saving care she would have received immediately at home. In these midterm elections, voters will decide which part of that tragedy is the bigger outrage: the pain and injury arbitrarily inflicted on the patient, or the price of the fuel in her gas tank."

Yay for Trust! Not my very favorite novel of the year (that would be Maggie O'Farrell's The Marriage Portrait) but it's definitely top five.

Steve Bannon posting thru angry tears and barely coping at the loss of Bolsonaro. His authoritarian leaders are failing BIGLY and he's utterly heartbroken. 💔

I hear people I know in rural America say "The liberal elites don't care about us" (or some version of that) all the freaking time but it is just demonstrably false. I'm not sure if Democrats don't do enough to get the word out, or if people just reflexively don't believe it, or a combination, but the idea that Democrats don't do anything substantive for rural Americans does not hold up to good-faith scrutiny.

One of my coworkers is having a baby in March and yesterday I went on an absolutely disgraceful spending spree at Hobbii buying yarn for a blanket (I couldn't decide which Twister colorway to buy so I bought six).

My latest finished project: Celestial Sunshine by Tina Tse. This was a mystery knitalong sponsored by my local yarn shop.

She stood before us, without notes, books, or nerves. The lectern was occupied by her handbag. She looked around, smiled, was still, and began.
