Started 16 on My Adventures With Superman this evening and it's love at first watch.
I said, "Good. You have found your Superman."
People who think Superman is a boring character and too overpowered have never really paid attention to Superman.

16 said- "The art. The lighting! The colors! It's vibrant without punching you in the face!" (16 is an artist)
I smiled because there are so many people who are hating the art style in this show.
But it truly is beautiful.
Metropolis in the morning in golds and blues is absolutely stunning.
Vaguely glistening stalks of corn in the Smallville sun. Just gorgeous.

I said to 16- I'm so glad that they're keeping Clark absolutely massive.
16- "Why?"
Because it illustrates how even though he's the most powerful person on the planet and literally looks down AT everyone he looks down on NO ONE.
16- "I just got that. Oh. Oh right."

@Shelter I still have to start that show!!! I think I might wait for all of it and binge it over a weekend

@Rstrahs

After today only 3 more episodes/weeks for this season.
I'd definitely do that if I weren't already completely invested in the story.

@Shelter have you happened to watch Harley Quinn? It is gross out humor but I love that show.

@Rstrahs
No, because my younger son is highly impressionable and I can't risk it.
Maybe on another total insomnia night I'll start.
It looks amazing.

@Rstrahs @Shelter I've only seen a couple episodes of HQ but the one with Swamp Thing wearing a manbun was hilarious

@GlennS @Rstrahs
Goddammit I need sleep and this is highly enticing.

@Shelter @Rstrahs Okay, I just watched the first two eps of My Adv w Superman and it's fantastic! And Jack Quaid (Boimler/Wee Hughie) is voicing Clark? Brilliant!

@GlennS @Rstrahs
I was watching part 1 of the first and was like- That's Quaid, and I smiled and felt that love when shit is done right.

@GlennS @Rstrahs
In the early 90s I had this exact experience with BTAS and The Joker by watching the end credits and seeing Hamill and being rocked back and laughing out loud with delight.

@Shelter @Rstrahs My son and I were just talking about this. Mark Hamill IS the Joker. All others are pretenders. Forget Luke Skywalker. The Joker is the role that Mark was intended to play.

@GlennS @Shelter Mark Hamill even did the voice of Joker on the shortlived Birds of Prey live action series. Granted, Joker was in the show for maybe 30 seconds laughing in one scene but it was Hamill so I noticed.

@Shelter @Rstrahs And when it comes to Batman, Kevin Conroy is the definitive Batman. His voice is perfect. When The Brave and the Bold came out, I loved the show, but I knew Diedrich Bader from the Drew Carey Show, so I couldn't get used to his voice for the longest time. Objectively, he was a really good Batman, esp since this was a more comedic take on him, a spiritual cousin to the Adam West version, but he had two strikes going in, I knew his voice AND he was NOT Kevin Conroy

@GlennS @Rstrahs

Also I think it's hilarious that I am 52, his father has the most infectious smile in Hollywood, his uncle is completely bonkers, but he's naturally Quaid to me.
All others have their first names appended.

@Shelter @Rstrahs Yeah, who knew that all those roles where Randy Quaid played a lunatic, he wasn't acting at all. He was just reading the lines and being himself

@Shelter @Rstrahs I caught up with all seven episodes this weekend. I'm loving this thing! Mallah and the Brain were perfect! And Mxy and the Legion of Lois Lanes killed me! Plus, all the easter eggs! And every episode just keeps getting better than the one before it

@Shelter Superman is one of my favorite, and for a long was my favorite superhero. He isn't boring, but what makes a good Superman story is the supporting cast. Lois, Jimmy, and Perry help bring Superman into a grounded world. That is my opinion anyway.

@Rstrahs
I looooove this Lois and this Jimmy.
This Perry makes me laugh out loud.

@Shelter she is such a a great character!!! I remember her from the 90s Superman show and loved her. When I read a few stories with her in it in the 80s/90s comics, I loved her even more!!!

@Rstrahs
So far Cat is gloriously camp, and I love it.

@Rstrahs
Coming back to this.
For a loooonnnnnnng time Batman was my favorite because I could identify with his rage and loss.
And then one day I remembered sitting in a theater in 1978 and believing that a man could fly.
And I realized just how much loss Clark had endured. How desperate he was to find a place for himself. But how he was always, always kind.
It was the moment that I grew up in this fashion.
This is why I fucking hate Snyder's films even though Cavill would have been

@Rstrahs
An excellent Superman otherwise.
Not every superhero has to be dark.
Superman is hope and light.
Superman is Samwise Gamgee with powers.

@Shelter The Bruce Time cartoon was Superman done right. I've been hearing good things this one, so I'll wind up giving it a try when I get caught up on my current watchlist. @Rstrahs

@GlennS @Rstrahs

I still think that Superman- The Animated Series was absolutely fantastic.
