@DJNoneYa I'm honestly just delighted to hear that maybe they have been working on it all this time.
@OminousHallways On CoSo everyone's posts go in the firehose, so you have equal opportunity to interact with everyone on the site. Nothing is de-prioritized automatically for you unless you actively filtered/muted/blocked it. On the bird site you do not get an equal chance to interact with every other user because your feed is pre-filtered before you ever see it.
Why is having no algorithm a good thing? #CoSo
@OminousHallways Instead of having some engineers building magical machine learning to decide what you see and what you don’t, you get to see every single post on the firehose. To make it more palatable you can filter it and split off new columns so you see exactly what you want.
Listening to metal and baking tonight. 🤘🍪

I’m not affiliated with that site or anything. Just found the recipe a couple years ago and it’s excellent.
@spacesloth 9 volt battery and steel wool. Fork in the microwave. Flint and steel. Propane camping stove. Magnifying glass and sunshine. Gasoline and styrofoam (allegedly, I haven’t personally tried this one). Say something dumb on the bird site (lol).
@cwithav Same. Don’t think I’m gonna be able to see anything.
@TheNewsOwl Some folks (this was my wife’s experience, and not for lack of trying either) can’t do it at all.
NASA pinpoints terrifying ‘sounds’ echoing from distant black hole
Computer powered by colony of blue-green algae has run for six months.
Blue-green algae, a type of cyanobacteria, set in a container on a windowsill powered a computer continuously for six months using photosynthesis.
@99reasons4truth …is. Is it cake?
@LiberalLibrarian I’ve been a software engineer my whole career and I technically worked in the cable industry for about 9 months of that. So whenever I called Comcast (not a customer anymore but I was for many years) I’d be sure to say up front that I had worked in the cable industry and that was always the key to skipping the script and getting real help.
@Ishihara How do you suppose they would collect data to arrive at that 80% number?

Regarding the allegations of "echo chamber"
Some folks say that using tools such as mute and block result in an echo chamber.
Many don't pause to consider that oftentimes it is the BEHAVIOR not the IDEA that is getting muted or blocked.
Maybe it is the idea.
But I suspect many people who use these tools are doing so to reduce antagonism, not to stop thinking as the term suggests.

@Minholkin There are all kinds of reasons to block content and many ways to do it. I filtered all the *ordle posts. I don't hate people who post that stuff, it just doesn't add any value for me and it gets in the way of stuff that does. So keep posting it. I just won't see it. I've muted a few really shouty people not because I hate them or even disagree with them but again, I didn't enjoy seeing their posts. And, I muted a couple accounts that I just don't like. No hard feelings.
@Smersh My relatives from Georgia came out to visit us in Oregon when I was a kid. We drove from Portland out to Bend (about 5 hours) and their minds were absolutely blown that we were still in the same state.
