started the day with a hike to see Snoqualmie Falls. So lovely! Honestly, how can you not feel giddy faced with a waterfall?

Visiting my sister who lives in Bellevue Washington and went full-metal-tourist with a visit to the Space Needle and the Chihuly glass garden. overall I don’t really care about famous buildings, but this one was really cool. Have you visited?

As a lifetime visitor of zoos, aquariums, and animal sanctuaries, I have seen a lot of critters. But today, I got to see a critter I’ve never seen with my eyeballs before: a cassowary. (I didn’t get a good picture of the actual animal so here’s a picture of the kids with the installation art). The animal itself was fascinating, like seeing a dinosaur. Definitely need to go back to the Greensboro science Center for another look.

This whole “getting Published” thing never gets old. New short story in an anthology today! This one’s a bit of science-fiction that takes place on an off-world botany research center. Check it out at : amazon.com/dp/B0CK3NH5KM

It's been quite a week at la Casa Bryant, with Covid taking out two Bryants and fleas attacking the canine Bryants. I'm exhausted from being the last woman standing. So good night CoSo. Hoping to wake to a brighter day.

Now that I've finished the movie festival, here are a few thoughts on the Universal Monsters: medium.com/@mirymom1/universal Do you have a favorite?

It’s spooky season and I’m all in. It’s time for monster movies, horror stories, and spooky decorations. The Carolina theater in Durham, North Carolina is having a universal monsters festival this weekend and I am in heaven. These guys are the best.

Breakfast of champions, 2023 edition; fruit, protein, caffeine, and a Covid test. (I’m negative so far, despite caring for an infected kid)

Had one of those relentless, nonstop kinds of days, so I ended it with comfort food: tomato soup in the brown bowl with a handle. What’s your go to when there’s too much day in your day?

I've got a new short story out today! I love working with Crone Girls Press--this is the third of their anthologies I've participated in. I hope you'll check it out! mybook.to/tanglefen

It feels like fall out there! And I'm definitely down for it. Here are some tiny beauties from today's walk.

A combination of rainy weather and a meeting heavy week at the dayjob has meant that all my walks have just been here in my own neighborhood. Lucky for me, I live in North Carolina, where wet weather means you get a variety of gorgeous fungus. All of these were taken within a few blocks of my house.

I finally finished Tom Jones, which was a great classic novel, but took me an entire month to read! So I'm celebrating by jumping into horror novels! I started with Gabino Iglesias: The Devil Takes You Home. Any here read his work?

Rainy day selling books today. I shared a table with a couple of writing friends at Bookmarks festival in Winston Salem, North Carolina today. We were definitely nervous about selling paper goods in the rain, but luckily the forecast was right and the rain slowed. And we also very well. I guess people who are willing to come out during rainy weather we’re determined to buy some books.

Today was my annual boob squishing, also known as a mammogram. So here I am posing with the mad science machine that I trust to find any signs of breast cancer early enough that the doctors can save me. And here’s a reminder to you or to anyone in your life with boobs, that mammograms save lives. A few minutes discomfort can make all the difference.

I've loved this poem ever since I first read it. Speaks to me about the business of art and how to keep going even when there's no recognition.

The kiddo and I have been baking for our local chapter of Meals on Wheels all summer. This week we took on some thing a little fancier with more steps, and it was so much fun! These are called spiral cookies. Aren’t they beautiful? (They’re delicious too.)

Check out these false foxglove flowers from my walk today! They lined both sides of the path!
