Well, I finally took a saw to the old rhododendron that fell over under the heavy snow a while back
I had hesitated, thinking I might be able to rescue it somehow, but the weight and shape was too unwieldy for salvage
I hate to give up on things but nature compels it, sometimes
Goodbye, lovely old rhody. Thank you for years of purple blossoms.

@Minholkin I have a bottle brush tree that was stressed to the max winter 2022/2023. Whacked it back almost to the trunk. Took awhile last summer, but the branches started to come back. Right now, those branches are bursting with buds that are about to blow bright red.
You're right, sometimes nature compels it, and gets it right. I was ready to fell the tree.
