I went for a job interview at our local township last week. I didn't get the job. I was pretty bummed. The person vacating the position was retiring and here I am at 61, interviewing. I suspect they wanted someone younger, even though I still have plenty of years left in me. Ageism exists.
@singlemaltgirl Thank you. I feel like I'm being forced into early retirement.
@Pepstar @singlemaltgirl Ageism is very real. Older workers are expensive, both in salary and benefits. Many employers don't see the upside of hiring for talent. My sympathies.
@Notokay @singlemaltgirl My current employer hires many older workers but the pay is shite. Multi-million dollar company. I make $6.50 less an hour than I did pre-Covid and only part time. It's ridiculous.
@Pepstar @singlemaltgirl Yes, older workers are exploitable because health insurance is ruinous by design, and they keep moving the retirement age up. And with the increase in AI and robotics, things will reach a head soon enough.
@Notokay @singlemaltgirl I agree. I feel like I'm being forced into early retirement.
@Pepstar @singlemaltgirl You are not wrong. It's a terrible feeling to grow old in a culture that does not value its elders.
@Pepstar It sure does. Over 50 you have a hard time. Elders are not respected as they should be. Take these pills & shut up.
