I have a friend that has been keeping a count of the mass shootings in the USA and the number he posted yesterday is giving me the chills. 254 shootings, in 160 days. This isn't the country I love anymore, it hasn't been for nearly half my life. But I'd like it to become a country I can love.

What's worse is that there's some firearm workers in the industry that are firing up warnings on twitter that it's possible that the Pride parades nationally might be the next targets for mass shootings, given light of some of the customer chatter they've been hearing at work. I am deeply fearful that my existence as a trans person, and my family, may become the next target too locally. I'm not out publicly in my region of the country, and things like this, makes me deeply afraid.

@PaganMother Canada really needs to rescind recognition of the US as a "safe country" for asylum claims. It's not and it hasn't been. And we need to give Americans the option to flee if they don't feel the political situation is stable enough that "just moving states" will help. Especially when there's no social safety net to ensure a person's well being.

@CannibalHoliday For once, I absolutely agree with you. I do know canadian trans that are just trying to get by and getting mistreated by the system there as well however, no system is perfect, but progress is never a means towards perfection, it's just a means to do better day by day.

@PaganMother There's lots of bigotry still, but there's definitely been a sea change. I started HRT in 2014, but haven't done any social transitioning, just was relieved that dysphoria was drastically reduced under the meds. Anyway the docs and nurses here on PEI have been really accepting. Weird considering how backward this place was growing up.

@CannibalHoliday I have to find a new clinic to get on any kind of HRT or start the progress towards top surgery. The last clinic I went to has not been very accepting or progressive in regards to trans treatment or supportive of transfolk in the region I live in. It's hard cause I would have to travel more than an hour to get help transitioning.

@PaganMother I hear ya on that. The endocrinologist is 4 hours away from here, and I used to have to drive that for a 20 minute appointment to get prescription refills. Covid got them to consider phone calls as an option. Yay?
Hope you find a solution that works for you and isn't too much of a burden.
