@Moxitude Likely continued DDoS attacks against the site -- they're getting more and more specific, which is both good and bad. Good in that it means their target base is shrinking, bad in that it means it's not just a random skiddie hitting the site.

@ThereseBrosseau any edit (don't need to change anything, just edit the photo) will set the metadata that the system needs to properly align it after it's sanitized.

@DaveMasonDotMe The system has been under sustained DoS/DDoS attacks for the past couple of days. You'll most likely see issues start to crop up again in another 5 hours or so, if prior attack patterns hold out.

In the grand scheme of things, it's a very short-term inconvenience - just give it time.

@Jezebelley That hit me once as well -- you just need to make a minor edit to the photo prior to uploading...no changes needed, just the act of editing sets the metadata that the system needs for proper orientation.

This is purely out of curiousity -- is there a blacksmith "community" on this site? Would love to share trials and tribulations, but don't want to bore the ever-loving bejeebus out of folks.

@HWood Do we understand what cash bail is about? If you have money, cash bail is not an issue...if you don't have (liquid) money, cash bail means you stay in jail pending trial -- i.e. you're not convicted of anything, but you're still locked up.

Outside analysis (no inside information...always _highly_ questionable): much of the site responds -- that loading to 99% and then stalling. Speaks to very specific targeting, which is a nicely sophisticated attack and not just a skiddie. Still expensive to maintain for long -- you're going to burn a botnet quickly....just speaks to the main perpetrator.

Little bit on DDoS attacks:

They're a bitch to defend against...but they're also a bitch to maintain. CoSo is particularly vulnerable right now due to both what I would call politics (as the bird site collapses) and the huge influx of new users (as the bird site collpases).

Depending on where Jester has defenses deployed, it may be an extremely short-lived inconvenience or a fairly short-lived inconvenience.

TLDR: give it time and all will be well.
