The American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior (AVSAB) has a position statement on “humane dog training” that spells out (with over 20+ references to scientific studies) why people should only utilize positive reinforcement dog training. Including that there is a link to the use of aversive training methods (shock & prong collars) and “long-term behavior problems including aggressive behavior towards people and other dogs”.
